The workshop will review the legal and ethical issues to consider in opening or expanding a practice. The workshop will provide an overview of choices of the legal structures for setting up a practice, owning, leasing or sharing space, documentation, and public perception, We will review intake, informed consent, confidentiality, records, tele-health, electronic health records, advertising, social media, and general business issues. We will discuss the applicable provisions of the Maryland laws and regulations, the Maryland and Association ethical codes, and how to recognize potential issues.

 After attending this workshop, attendees will be able to 

• Identify the various forms of legal entities, and the legal and ethical issues relating to the expansion of the practice. 
• Assess the legal and ethical aspects of owning, leasing, and sharing offices.

Requirements for completion: This is considered a home study course for reporting purposes, and in order to get CE credit you must pass the post-test (75%) and submit a completed evaluation. Once both the post-test and evaluation are received by MPA, a CE certificate will be emailed within 7-10 business days.

Richard Bloch, J.D.,is President of Shiling, Bloch & Hirsch, P.A. and has been in private practice in Maryland since 1972. He received his B.A. from the George Washington University and his J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law. He is admitted to practice in Maryland, the United States District Court for the District of Maryland, the United States Court of Appeals, Fourth Circuit, and the Supreme Court of the United States. His practice focuses primarily on health law and representing healthcare providers before the Boards of Examiners, business law, estate planning and civil litigation. He is a member of the Maryland Bar Association and the Baltimore County Bar Association. Mr. Bloch has been General Counsel to the Maryland Psychological Association since 1979. He has written numerous articles and lectures frequently on legal and ethical issues pertaining to the practice of mental health.
