Reporting Child/Vulnerable Adult Abuse/Neglect: What, When, Where and How

This online presentation will review Maryland law regarding confidentiality, therapist safety, and mandated reporting. Additionally, it will discuss instances where exceptions to confidentiality might occur and how to handle such situations.

This webcast is designed to help you:

  1. Know the specific situations that Maryland law requires you to provide patient information, with or without patient consent, to a Maryland State agency; and,
  2. Identify stressors that can lead to burnout and have a negative impact on their clinical work
  3. Know who to contact and what information needs to be provided when you are complying with mandating reporting requirements. 

Requirements for completion: This is considered a home-study course for reporting purposes, and in order to get CE credit you must pass the post-test (75%) and submit a completed evaluation. You will receive your CE certificate via email 7-10 business days after workshop completion.

Richard Bloch, Esq., is President of Shiling, Bloch & Hirsch, P.A. and has been in private practice in Maryland since 1972. He received his B.A. from the George Washington University and his J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law. He is admitted to practice in Maryland, the United States District Court for the District of Maryland, the United States Court of Appeals, Fourth Circuit, and the Supreme Court of the United States. His practice focuses primarily on general business law, health law and representing healthcare providers before the Boards of Examiners, estate planning and civil litigation. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Maryland Bar Association, and the Baltimore County Bar Association. Mr. Bloch has been General Counsel to the Maryland Psychological Association since 1979. He has written numerous articles and lectures frequently on legal and ethical issues pertaining to the practice of psychology and mental health.

Paul C. Berman, Ph.D., is a licensed psychologist in private practice in Towson Maryland. Dr. Berman's private practice includes Parent Coordination, child forensic evaluations, fitness to parent evaluations, and custody evaluations. Since September 1993, Dr. Berman has worked part-time for the Maryland Psychological Association as Professional Affairs Officer. He serves as a liaison between psychologists, managed care/insurance companies, State agencies, and other professional associations. Dr. Berman has presented numerous workshops for MPA as well as at APA and other associations nationally.
